Meet Kendra. Kendra is a licensed graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT), a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). She enjoys working with couples and families and helping them navigate through the difficult challenges of life.
Thoughts on therapy. “I know there are times in our lives when we just can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. We often feel overwhelmed in our relationships, not knowing what to do to make them better. As your therapist, I can be there to provide compassion, insight, and suggestions that can help you move in the direction you want to go. I believe that therapy can help individuals, couples, and families develop the skills needed to achieve their goals.”
Experience. Kendra earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Therapeutic Recreation. She completed training at the Children’s National Medical Center, the Vermont Children’s Hospital, and the National Institutes of Health where she gained extensive experience working with children undergoing cancer treatment, medically fragile children, and children dealing with death and loss. She then earned her Master of Science degree from University of Maryland in Couple and Family Therapy. Kendra specializes in couple intimacy issues and concerns as well as female sexual dysfunction. She is also a trained facilitator in Prepare/Enrich Counseling where she works with dating, engaged, and married couples who want to grow and strengthen their relationships. Kendra’s distinctive background provides her rich insight and a unique perspective into how families and couples can best thrive during difficult times unique to each couple or family.
Treatment Approach. Kendra’s approach to working with her clients is warm, accepting, and genuine. In a judgement-free way, she works in collaboration with her clients to help them gain insight in order to facilitate an empowerment in modifying thought processes and behavior in constructive ways. Couples and families experience improved relationships when each is actively involved in this process. Her practice is heavily influenced by evidenced-based techniques drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and the Gottman model. She integrates these approaches to help her clients address issues, find solutions, and learn new techniques to help them improve their relationships.
